About Lisa

Lisa’s focus is on finding better ways to prevent, detect, and manage chronic disease to improve peoples’ quality of life. She was born in the UK and moved to South Africa in 2012 to work with disadvantaged communities. She has over 40 publications, around 20 years’ international research experience and was recognised in 2018 by the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) as a rated scientist. With a background in nutrition, health psychology and behaviour change, her passion is in working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to develop inclusive interventions that improve health and lives. Stakeholders to date have included the Department of Health (UK and South Africa), British Hypertension Society, South African Heart and Stroke Foundation, US Centre for Disease Control, and World Health Organisation

Her work entails securing grant funded projects, managing research programmes, supervising post-graduate students, and dissemination of evidence to the scientific, policy and wider community. 


She has conducted research in industry and academia, including four years with a start-up company. With a strong network of researchers around the globe and across many different fields, she develops solutions that have local, national and international impact.
